For New Choices participants who need further assistance in the job search process or for anyone who's looking for resources to help them along their job search, please see the information below.

Career Development Resources:
  • CareerOneStop centers are national career development and job searching assistant centers. You can visit their website for information about job training, occupations in high-demand by employers, salary information and resume and cover letter assistance. Their website also has specific information for mature workers and veterans.
  • Pennsylvania CareerLink is Pennsylvania's system of career development and job search centers. Their website provides information about their locations across the state, which provide job training classes. You can also use their website to learn more about specific career paths and services, such as transportation assistance and childcare assistance, available to job seekers across the state.
  • The PA Workforce Investment Board (WIB) works with employers and job seekers to ensure that high-demand occupations are filled and that people looking for jobs can find employment. You can use their website to find out more about high-demand occupations in Pennsylvania. The state WIB also works with local Boards to provide career development services targeted to each region of the state.
  • Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board (TRWIB) is an organization that works with the state WIB to meet the needs of Pittsburgh employers and job seekers. In addition to information about high demand occupations, you can use their website to learn more about their training programs.
  • The Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation assists individuals with disabilities in training for and finding fulfilling employment opportunities that match their skills and interests. To find a local office near you, consult their online directory.
  • Pittsburgh Disability Employment Project for Freedom provides education and job training for individuals with disabilities. They work closely with local employers to place their participants in high-demand occupations. 
  • The Virtual Career Network helps you explore career options in the healthcare industry and also assists you in figuring out what certifications and degrees, if any, you need to find a job that fits your interests. 
  • The Labor Management Clearinghouse is a Pittsburgh non-profit that works with unions and employers to place unemployed individuals in high-demand occupations. 
  • Learn How to Become is an educational website with information about career paths, education options, salary levels and other resources for job seekers.

Job Search Websites:
  • Imagine Pittsburgh is a project of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development that provides resources for job seekers in southwestern Pennsylvania, including featured job postings and a career search page.
  • Career Builder is a job search site that allows you to search for open positions by interest and location. You can also upload your resume and fill out job applications online.
  • Monster.com is a job search site that allows you to search for job openings by interest, job title and location. You can also upload your resume and apply for jobs online, as well as view their company profiles for more information about employers.
  • Simply Hired is a website that collects job postings from other websites, making your online job search quicker and easier. You can search for jobs based on category and location.
  • Indeed.com is a website that collects job postings from other websites, making your online job search quicker and easier. You can also upload your resume and search by interest and location.
  • Jobs.com allows you to search both local and international job opportunities by job title, interest and category.
  • Job.com is an online job search site that allows you to search for specific jobs by title and interest. You can also browse job openings in your area.
  • Sustainable Careers is an online job search site that posts positions in the green jobs sector.
  • Craigslist is a website with online classified ads, including job postings. You can access it here to find classifieds specific to your city or click here to view Craigslist Pittsburgh.
  • USA Jobs allows you to search and apply for federal government jobs.
  • PA Employment allows you to search and apply for jobs with the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Allegheny County Job Opportunities provides a list of job openings with the county government.
  • The City of Pittsburgh's Online Employment Center has information about applying for jobs with the City of Pittsburgh.

Resume and Cover Letter Help:
  • Purdue Resume Workshop has information about what you should include in a resume as well as examples of resume formatting.
  • Career Perfect Resume and Cover Letter Help has detailed information that can answer all your questions about resume and cover letter formatting and length. The site also has information about electronic versus paper resumes and cover letters and strategies for making sure that employers notice your application.
  • CareerOneStop has a section of their website dedicated to writing resumes and cover letters.

Job Interview Advice:
  • The Careers section of U.S. News's website has a list of the 10 Most Common Job Interview Questions and suggestions for dealing with difficult questions.
  • About.com's Job Searching section has a list of handy tips to remember and review before going to your interview.
  • This post on the Passive Panda blog has some fresh and honest advice about what really makes the difference to employers in a job interview.
  • This post on Forbes.com reminds you of what you should and shouldn't ask an employer as part of your job interview.

Starting Your Own Business:
  • The Micro-Business Institute is part of Pittsburgh Community Service, Inc., that helps individuals from underserved communities start their own business and become self-employed.
  • The Small Business Administration's website has a collection of articles to help you decide if starting a business is right for you and how you can get started. You can also view a list of local Pennsylvania offices.
  • The Small Business Administration also has a section on its website dedicated to resources for women-owned businesses.
  • Minority and Women Business Enterprises has information for women and minorities about starting a business. If you're a person of color and/or a woman and are starting your own business, you may want to look into a small business certification.
