Leadership Day 2015

On Monday, April 13, 2015, over a hundred Pennsylvania Women work employees, New Choices graduates and New Choices advocates went to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to promote women’s employment issues throughout the state and raise awareness about the New Choices program.

It was a full day of listening to presentations, sharing stories and visiting with legislatures. Our keynote speakers this year were Dave Mayernick, attorney and former PA representative, and Maryann Haytmanek, Northampton New Choices Project Director. We also enjoyed hearing from our guest speakers, PA representative Mauree Gingrich and former representative Jerry Stern.

The day was also used to honor a few of our outstanding graduates. Paulina Rodriguez (Lancaster, PA) and Kimberly S. Wilson-Kaufman (Pittsburgh, PA) were identified as this year's Shining Stars and kindly shared their stories and experiences with lawmakers. Amanda Barcheck (Ford City, PA), Betty Frimpong-Manosh (Lancaster, PA) and Marilyn Taveras (Hellertown, PA) were also recognized with the Stephanie Beavers scholarship.

If you were unable to attend Leadership Day but still want to share your story or advocate for Pennsylvania Women Work and New Choices, please consider writing to your legislature.

A very special thank you goes out to Michelle Rorison and Dana Whatley Smith, both from BNY Mellon for conducting a jeans day fundraiser at BNY Mellon that helped raise money to pay for the bus for Leadership Day!
