Pennsylvania Women Work is proud to award four scholarships each year in memory of Stephanie Beavers-Davis.
In Memoriam: Stephanie Beavers-Davis

When Stephanie Beavers came into the New Choices program at Carlow College in 1997, she did not have a high school diploma or a job and was expecting her first child. Stephanie passed her GED shortly after our initial meeting and attended the New Choices Career Development classes. She found she had a talent for computers. After earning her CNE (Certified Novell Engineer), she obtained a position at NDC Health Information Systems in customer support.
In 2000, Stephanie and her son, Skyler, relocated to Tampa, Florida. She found her technical ability was in high demand in this area and was immediately hired by Omega Health Systems as a Product Coordinator. After a year she was promoted to Quality Assurance and Installation Manager. Her extraordinary abilities and determination were recognized by one of the company principals, Bruce Kusens, who encouraged her to continue her education and start her own business. She launched .TestCorp in 2001 and a new venture in 2004, A Heartbeat Away.
Despite her success, Stephanie did not forget her struggle. Because of what she experienced and the help she received, she wanted to give back. Ms. Beavers established a scholarship to assist a deserving recipient much like herself. Mr. Kusens offered to match this scholarship with one of his own to recognize the efforts of both the New Choices Program and Stephanie.
In February, 2004 Stephanie was honored by Women Work! as a Woman of Triumph at the organization's 25th Anniversary Gala at the Women's Museum of Natural History.
Suddenly and tragically, Stephanie Beavers-Davis died April 19, 2004 at her home in Lutz, Florida. Stephanie is survived by her son Skyler, her mom Mary and her brothers Nathaniel (Ben) and Captain Noel Beavers. Her family, co-workers and friends wish to continue the tradition she started of helping others. Her scholarships will be continued each year as a memorial to this SHINING STAR.
