Building a new life and a new career: Vision’s story

When Vision moved to the U.S. from Zimbabwe in December 2023 to join her husband, she wasn’t sure what her future would hold. Even with a strong career background in forensic accounting, Vision didn’t know where to begin.  “I was starting over,” Vision shared. “I didn’t know what to do. Should I go back to school? Take a job in food service?  I was overwhelmed.”

While exploring her options, Vision discovered PA Women Work online. She registered for a Career Kick-Start event, which led to a connection with PWW program manager, Kristen Tsapis.

Kristen helped Vision explore training programs and introduced her to Year Up, a one-year, tuition-free IT training program. “It sounded too good to be true,” Vision said. “But Kristen helped me through every step of the application — I wouldn’t have known about it without her.”

Vision recently started an internship at BNY through the Year Up program and is excited to see what her future holds. “When I look back, I have to pinch myself. I thought I’d come here and get a random job. Now I’m on my way to launching a career in tech. I’m forever in debt to Kristen and PA Women Work.”
