Finding balance and confidence: Amy’s Story

When Amy heard about PA Women Work, she was preparing for two big transitions — growing her career and welcoming her first child. “I wanted to continue being a working mom but find balance as I started this new chapter,” she shared.

After meeting with a PA Women Work career coach, Amy joined the 3 Cups of Coffee mentorship program and was paired with a mentor. “My mentor, Erica, was so approachable. It was refreshing to have a space where women’s experiences were honored and supported,” Amy said.

During a period of rapid change at her organization, Amy was seeking advice on how to advocate for herself in the workplace. Her mentor helped her navigate discussions with her employer. “She validated the need for support and helped me think through how to build a stronger team,” Amy explained. As a result, Amy gained support at work and strengthened relationships with her coworkers.

Their conversations also focused on navigating motherhood and career growth. “Erica taught me that returning from maternity leave isn’t a switch — it’s a dial,” Amy shared.

Now the proud mother of a healthy baby girl, Amy has put her mentor’s advice to action as she transitioned back to work this fall. “It’s amazing to have my mentor cheering me on,” she said. “PA Women Work is a network of women who lift each other up. I’m so grateful to have found that community here in Pittsburgh.”
