When Brooke was finishing her master’s degree in Clinical Counseling, she knew an exciting new chapter was ahead, but she wasn’t quite sure where it would lead. While searching for rental assistance resources, she came across Pennsylvania Women Work and decided to learn more.
“I looked through the website and really connected with what PA Women Work was about,” Brooke shared. “I scheduled my career coaching session that same day.”
After meeting with her coach, Brooke enrolled in PA Women Work’s New Choices workforce development program to strengthen her job search skills and prepare for her transition into the workforce.
“I knew my resume was okay,” she said, “but I wanted it to be better than okay.”
Through New Choices and one-on-one career coaching, Brooke refined her resume and learned how to better communicate her strengths and experience to employers.
As she worked toward her career goals, Brooke applied to the BH Fellows program, an educational loan repayment and training program for local community behavioral health workers, and leaned on the support of her career coach, Sheila.
“During that process, I had regular check-ins with Sheila,” Brooke said. “She was the one who encouraged me to apply to companies connected to the BH Fellows program.”
That encouragement paid off.
Today, Brooke is a Family-Based Mental Health Professional with Pressley Ridge and has been accepted into the newest BH Fellows cohort. She credits PA Women Work with helping her gain the skills needed to take that next step.
“PA Women Work helped me learn how to market myself, and I now have a resume I am proud of,” she said.
