PA Women Work: Updates on COVID-19

The Coronavirus (COVID-19), like the flu and other viruses, can be easily spread from person to person. In order to keep everyone safe, our staff is working remotely. We are still available to help you navigate through your unemployment situation and job search. If you need assistance, please email us at info@pawomenwork.org or call us at 412-742-4362. If we do not answer right away, please leave us a message, and we will get back to you as soon as we are able.

All of our services have moved to a virtual format. For a full list of upcoming classes, visit our upcoming classes page.
An update for our New Choices program:
In response to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, we have launched our traditional New Choices class using a new, safe-from-your-home, virtual model.

During the class, participants will gain access to current lists of job opportunities, practice interviewing and applying for jobs online, revise their resumes, and learn how to manage stress through this uncertain time.

Being that this class will be completely conducted online, there are a few prerequisites for participants:
  • Reliable online technology to access online class platform
  • Computer/hand-held device (such as a laptop, tablet or smart phone) for class participation purposes
  • Cell phone or telephone
  • Current/active email and ability to open attachments, complete documents and return

Additional details on how you can help:
  • Practice effective and frequent hand washing. Washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol based hand sanitizer (60% alcohol or greater) when soap and water are not available, are the most important steps you can take to decrease the spread of germs. Hand washing is especially important after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing into a tissue, going to the bathroom, and before eating or preparing food.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue. Germs from respiratory droplets will spread less from person to person if trapped in fabric at the bend of your arm or in a tissue. Droplets on hands will quickly and easily spread illness from person to person through touch.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of COVID-19. Fever (measured temperature greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit), cough, and shortness of breath.
  • If you are sick, stay home. To help yourself and everyone around you, stay home if you are feeling any negative symptoms.
An update for our 3 Cups of Coffee Program:
With the scare of COVID-19 rising in the United States, we want to take every precaution to keep all of you healthy. During this time, for our 3 Cups of Coffee mentees and mentors who continue their meetings, we are asking them to do so virtually.

Virtual mentoring is easy, and we promise, you can still build a strong connection without meeting in person. Here are some steps to follow to get your virtual mentoring up and running:

STEP ONE: Choose an online platform that works for both of you. We recommend using Google Hangouts, Zoom, Skype or Facetime. Click on each word to be directed to a tutorial on how to use each platform!

STEP TWO: Determine a date/time and make an account. Each platform we've recommended is a little different. You might already have an account for some, and for others, you might not need an account to use it. Follow the tutorials linked above, and you should be good to go!

STEP THREE: Depending on the platform, send a link or calendar request to your mentee/mentor.
Decide which one of you is scheduling the meeting, and from there, make sure you know what is needed in the platform of your choice to get connected.

STEP FOUR: Start connecting! Once you have everything up and running, you can conduct your virtual meeting just as you would if you were in person. We suggest even brewing up your own pot of coffee!

Thank you for your cooperation. It is our goal to continue helping job-seeking women during this time, but it is most important to keep all of you safe and healthy.

If you have any questions about getting started virtually, please contact Taneshya Williams at twilliams@pawomenwork.org or 412-904-1345.
